I am 46 years old…born in 1973. In my lifetime, the world has not experienced anything remotely comparable to the challenge we currently face. Every single one of the 6 billion people on this planet has been, and will continue to be dramatically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 1918 flu infected 500 million people (one quarter of the world’s population at the time), with estimates of anywhere between 17 million and 100 million lives lost, making it one of the deadliest pandemics our species has ever endured. I am not a historian, nor am I an infectious disease expert. I have no idea if COVID-19 could potentially pose a similar threat to the 1918 flu. I don’t believe anyone knows yet what is likely to happen. For the past several weeks, it’s felt like society as a whole has been mired in relative purgatory…waiting one day after the next for any sort of idea about where this is ultimately headed.
This isn’t about politics…or religion…or economics. This transcends everything…and everyone.
When faced with serious challenges, humans have historically been capable of uniting together to accomplish unbelievable feats.
We’ll make it through this…and come out the other side a better society.
Please stay safe and healthy.
Stay safe too, Jeb!
